Pig farm
As a greenfield investment of Bóly Zrt, Europe’s most advanced pig farm was built on two neighbouring sites located between the villages of Majs and Bezedek. Equipped with modern technology and machines, the world-class sites are suitable for the breeding 80 thousand fattening pigs per year. Started in August 2012 and completed in July 2014, the investment project cost HUF 5 billion in total. It was this industrial complex that was awarded with the 2013 Construction Industry Master Builder Award for Excellence. As a result of the development, 5 pig sheds of the same size and capacity were built. Access to the sites is secured with fences, barriers, 24-hour gate service and vehicle disinfection basins. The pig sheds consist of 4 insulated rooms, which are equipped with fully automated feeding, watering and ventilation systems. The sheds have a pen layout and can house up to 608 animals. A so-called ‘lagoon’ system was built under the pig sheds. The slurry is discharged via slurry channels under the floor-drains of the lagoons into 4 concrete basins, each with an 8000 cubic-metre capacity.
